SFM Sealing Fluid Powder — Makes 55 Gallons

One packet. Fifty-five gallons. Just add water. Designed for industrial mailrooms, mailing service bureaus, and fulfillment centers running 30,000+ envelopes per month.

A 55-gallon drum of pre-mixed sealing solution costs $582–$720 and weighs 460 lbs. It ships freight only, requires a lift gate, and takes advance scheduling. Our powder packet weighs 605 grams — 1 lb 5 oz — and ships Priority Mail in a padded envelope for a few dollars. Same professional formula. $299.95. Read the Complete Sealing Solution Guide →

What You Get

  • One pre-measured powder packet — makes exactly 55 gallons of sealing solution
  • Professional-grade active ingredients: acid buffer, pharmaceutical-grade biocide, food-grade colorant
  • Same performance as Pitney Bowes E-Z Seal 607-0 and all major OEM drum products
  • Ships Priority Mail — no freight, no lift gate, no pallet, no advance scheduling
  • Indefinite shelf life when stored dry — stock up freely

Where to Get Your Water

At 55 gallons, this is where the powder format delivers its most dramatic advantage. Your options:

  • On-site filtered tap water — most commercial facilities, print shops, and fulfillment centers already have filtration. Cost: essentially zero per batch.
  • IBC tote tank delivery — a 275-gallon IBC tote from a commercial water supplier runs $150–250 delivered and covers five full 55-gallon batches.
  • Commercial water delivery — eleven 5-gallon jugs from Culligan, Primo, or DS Waters covers one full batch for approximately $55–80 delivered to your loading dock.

Recommended — Drum Pump

For 55-gallon operations, a standard drum pump makes mixing and dispensing dramatically easier. A basic hand-operated or electric drum pump runs $30–80 on Amazon. Search "drum pump 55 gallon" — dozens of options, no special sourcing required.

How to Mix

  1. Pre-dissolve: Drop the packet into approximately 1 gallon of warm water and stir until fully dissolved and uniformly blue — about 60 seconds
  2. Add to vessel: Pour the dissolved concentrate into your 55-gallon drum or vessel
  3. Top up: Fill to 55 gallons with clean water and circulate with your drum pump

Pre-dissolving in a small amount of water first ensures complete dissolution before adding to the full vessel — especially important at this volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a special drum or vessel?
Any clean 55-gallon drum, tote, or large vessel works. A standard open-head poly drum is ideal and available at most industrial supply stores for $20–40. If you already have a drum from a previous pre-mixed delivery, rinse it thoroughly and reuse it.

Do I need a drum pump?
Not required, but strongly recommended. A standard drum pump ($30–80 on Amazon) makes mixing, circulating, and dispensing significantly easier. Search "drum pump 55 gallon" for options.

Will this void my machine warranty?
Almost certainly no. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranties solely because you used a compatible aftermarket supply. Our formula meets all OEM functional specifications including the Pitney Bowes 607-0 drum replacement specification.

Can I order multiple packets and mix them all at once?
Yes. Each packet makes exactly 55 gallons. If you need 110 gallons, order two packets and mix each separately into its own 55-gallon vessel.

How often should I change the solution?
Every 30–60 days regardless of consumption. High-volume operations that empty and refill regularly are naturally maintaining freshness. If solution sits unused, change it at the 30-day mark.

Never use bleach as a substitute for sealing solution

Bleach corrodes metal components, degrades rubber seals and O-rings, and destroys moistening brushes — often within weeks. The correct biocide for mailing machines is benzalkonium chloride, which is safe for all machine components at the trace concentrations used in our formula. Learn more in our complete guide.

Need a smaller size? We carry 1-gallon, 5-gallon, and 15-gallon powder packets for smaller mailroom volumes. See all sealing solution sizes →
