⚠️ Two Different Ink Systems — ColorMax 7/8 vs. ColorMax 9
The ColorMax 7 and ColorMax 8 use Memjet water-based dye ink (CJ-21/22/23/24, 250ml each). The ColorMax 9 uses HP inkjet technology (CKC-21/CKY-22/CKM-23/CKB-24) — these ink systems are NOT interchangeable between printer families.
Make sure you select the right supplies for your specific ColorMax model before ordering.
ColorMax 7 & 8 Supplies — Memjet Ink System
The ColorMax 7 and ColorMax 8 use Memjet technology with a stationary 70,400-nozzle print bar. Ink tanks are the same CJ-series used in the Rena/Quadient Mach 5, 6, 8, and X.

Are ColorMax 7/8 ink tanks compatible with the Mach 5, 6, or 8?
Yes. The CJ-21 (Cyan), CJ-22 (Yellow), CJ-23 (Magenta), and CJ-24 (Black) 250ml Memjet tanks are cross-compatible with the Rena/Quadient Mach 5, Mach 6, Mach 8, Mach X, and other Memjet-based printers from Neopost, Hasler, and Astro.
How many ink tanks does the ColorMax 7 or 8 require?
Both models use five 250ml tanks: 1 Cyan (CJ-21), 1 Yellow (CJ-22), 1 Magenta (CJ-23), and 2 Black (CJ-24). All five must be installed and non-empty for the printer to operate.
Can I use ColorMax 9 ink in a ColorMax 7 or 8?
No. The ColorMax 9 uses HP-based ink tanks (CKC-21, CKY-22, CKM-23, CKB-24) which are a completely different system from the Memjet CJ-series tanks used in the ColorMax 7 and 8. They are not interchangeable.
What is the CJ-20 printhead and when should I replace it?
The CJ-20 is the Memjet stationary printhead for the ColorMax 7, 8, and LP. It contains 70,400 inkjet nozzles spanning 8.77" wide. Replace it when you notice significant print quality degradation that cleaning cycles cannot resolve.
What does the 123-2480 wiper roller do?
The 123-2480 wiper roller is a maintenance consumable that cleans the Memjet printhead surface between print cycles. Regular replacement helps extend printhead life and maintain consistent print quality on the ColorMax 7 and 8.
